RULES OF PLAY
1. Winter Rules
“Winter rules” or “preferred lies” only applies to the fairway. The fairway is defined as any closely mown area. “Closely mown area” means any area of the course cut to fairway height or less.
2. Embedded or Plugged Ball
A ball embedded through the green may be lifted, cleaned, and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole. except all hazards on the course.
3. Mud On Ball
If there is a clump of mud on your ball, you may lift, clean, and drop your ball. You must first make your opponent aware that there is a clump of mud on your ball. You may then lift and clean the ball and place as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole.
4. Out Of Bounds
If the ball goes out of bounds from tee shot the player must hit another tee shot under penalty of one stroke. You will be hitting three off the tee. Or you may go to where the ball went out of bounds and come back in on the path it went out of bounds until the ball is in play within a two-club length not nearer the hole under a penalty of one stroke. You will be hitting three from that spot.
Note: If your second tee shot goes out of bounds you must then proceed to the point of entry and drop a ball, within two club lengths, not nearer the hole. You are now lying four, hitting five on your next shot. If a fairway shot goes out-of-bounds follow the same procedures. If you are not sure if a tee shot or fairway shot went out of bounds then hit a provisional ball (see below). All out of bounds stakes are specified on the Valley View score card.
5. Water Hazards
A “water hazard” is any sea, lake, pond, river, ditch, surface drainage ditch or other open water course whether or not containing water, and anything of a similar nature. If a ball is in or is lost in a water hazard, the player may under penalty of one stroke drop a ball behind the water hazard, keeping the point at which the original ball last crossed the margin of the hazard directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind the hazard the ball may be dropped. All ponds and ditches are hazards unless otherwise specified on the scorecard. You cannot touch or reposition a ball in a hazard without incurring a two-stroke penalty.
6. Ball in the Woods
If a ball is either lost in the woods or is found in the woods but the player deems it unplayable the player under penalty of one stroke may either
Determine the point of entry into the woods, line up that point with the hole and walk straight back with Drop a ball within two club lengths of the spot where the ball entered the woods but not nearer the hole.
7. Lost Ball or Ball Unplayable in the Fairway
If a ball is lost in the fairway, the player shall play another ball as near as possible at the spot from which the original ball was estimated to be if both parties agree it was lost in the fairway without a penalty.
If your opponent does not agree that the ball was lost in the fairway then under penalty of one stroke as near as possible at the spot from which the original ball was estimated to be. The player shall concur with his opponent as to this location.
8. Provisional Ball
If a player deems his ball lost and a provisional ball is put into play. Then If the player finds the first ball and can play that ball, the provisional ball can be picked up without a penalty of one stroke.
But if the player hits his provisional ball and then finds his first ball he must play (under penalty of one stroke), and the player must continue to play his provisional ball.
9. Time Limit
There shall be a maximum time limit of FIVE Minutes for looking for a ball.
10. USGA
USGA rules govern all play unless otherwise specified by the league or the local course rules.

All scores must be sent to me by Tuesday the following week of scheduled play; otherwise, it will be considered a no show, and I will use one of your team members’ scores closest to your handicap.
Only Exceptions you must show for playoffs at schedule play.
14. Scoring
11-point scoring system: one point per hole (1/2 point each if tied), one point for low net (half point each if tied). Low net = total score – handicap. one point for most holes won (half point each if tied).
If you are a no show, then your opponent will play against another team member on your team closest to your handicap or your average play when there are enough scores for average and match cards.

Handicap based on last 10 rounds
- For calculating the handicap Skins, the maximum number of strokes deducted on Par 3’s will be “0”.
18. Additional Roasting Comments:
Rick Mahoney must bring a 18 Pack on the Course.
Dave Lewis should play from whites.
Kevin Fee should also play from whites.
Rock and Jim Cook should trust the handicap calculation and not their abacus.
Jim Cook and Rick Mahoney will be playing music on the course. You can choose not to play with them at no plenty.
Dave Jowdy will not be playing with Jim Cook or Rick Mahoney.
Brian Davis should slow down his swing or he going to hurt his back again. It also hurts me to watch
Brian Davis should stop saying I don’t know why I play this game. It the only exercise he gets to keep in shape.
No one should listen to Tony when he said pick it up and its more than 1 feet.
George Murad and Luke should provide a cigar for the person they ride with.
Jeff George should retire so he can be on time. He will be Retired for the second half of the season and probably still be late. He really got no excuses at all because he works from home.
No Crop formations allow on the course Sunderlin rule.
Rich Margott can open his eyes now on par three. He had eye surgery so he never gets a hole in one again
Dave Lewis is trying to retire on the skin’s money.
Rick Carr might have an excuse bad shoulder for bad play this year. Unlike other years no excuses for bad play. Lefties never do anything right.
Might have to allow play from ladies for players over 80.
Watch out if Bill starts hitting the ball straight.
When you play with Richie you need to tell him loudly where his ball landed.
Sal should be allowed to play an exacta for his score on the hole.
Dave Kane says is the oldest Dukes player and he looks it. But I don’t think they keep records back that far.
